چکیده
Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is an economically important pest of variety crops, including maize (Zea mays L.), rice (Oryza sativa and cotton (Gossypium spp.). Conventional chemical insecticides are usually used for management this pest; however, a viable alternative the use microbial agents or their biological products, such as entomopathogenic nematodes. Their efficacy, affected by abiotic conditions ultraviolet (UV) light desiccation. It therefore necessary to develop formulations that preserve extend viability agent product while facilitating ease application. This laboratory study was conducted determine pathogenicity nematode Heterorhabditis bacteriophora (Poinar) against S. third-instar larvae. Infective juveniles (IJs) were tested at concentration 350 IJs/ml in two substrates (water 0.1% [w/v] agar suspension) with four periods exposure (0, 5, 10 15 min) UV radiation 253.7 nm. Each eight treatments included 40 larvae, each treatment replicated three times completely randomized design (two factors type medium time). We determined (w/v) suspension, compared water substrate, protected IJs from harmful thus improved survival frugiperda.

Caterpillar (lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Feeding on Pasture Grasses in Central Florida
Stargrasses ( Cynodon nlemfuensis Vanderyst var. nlemfuensis ) and bermudagrasses ( C. dactylon (L.) Persoon) are important warm-season forage grasses, with several cultivars developed for conditions found in central and southern Florida. Major insect pests of these grasses include grass loopers ( Mocis spp.) and fall armyworm ( Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith)), which annually may impose ec...
متن کاملRelative effects of ultraviolet and visible light on the activities of corn earworm and beet armyworm (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) nucleopolyhedroviruses.
Five different combinations of fluorescent tubes (UV-B/UV-B, UV-B/UV-A, UV-A/ UV-A, UV-B/White, White/White) were used to determine relative effects of UV and visible light on the nucleopolyhedroviruses (NPV) of Helicoverpa zea and Spodoptera exigua. For both viruses, the greatest inactivation occurred with exposure to UV-B radiation. Both virus concentration and radiation exposure time influen...
متن کاملThe phylogeny of the Noctuidae (Lepidoptera)
A new phylogenetic system of the Noctuidae is proposed. The system should, however, be regarded as provisional because it is primarily based on only two character complexes: the male genitalia and the tympanal region. The presence of preabdominal brush-organs and the length of tibial spurs in the adult male, the presence of a ventral cervical gland and the lack of the SV 2 setae on the first ab...
متن کاملEffects of virus concentration and ultraviolet irradiation on the activity of corn earworm and beet armyworm (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) nucleopolyhedroviruses.
Laboratory studies were initiated to determine the relationship between virus concentration and radiation-caused inactivation of NPVs from Helicoverpa zea (HzSNPV) and Spodoptera exigua (SeMNPV). In the laboratory, a UV-B/UV-A system was used for inactivation studies. For both viruses inactivation was dependent upon both length of UV exposure and virus concentration. At all virus concentrations...

We characterized the dynamics of mortality factors affecting immature developmental stages of the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). Multiple decrement life tables for egg and early larval stages of S. frugiperda in maize (Zea mays L.) fields were developed with and without augmentative releases of Telenomus remus Nixon (Hymenoptera: Platygastridae) from...
